The Dangling Conversation

It’s a still life water color, Of a now late afternoon,
As the sun shines through the curtained lace And shadows wash the room.
And we sit and drink our coffee Couched in our indifference,
Like shells upon the shore You can hear the ocean roar
In the dangling conversation And the superficial sighs,
The borders of our lives.

And you read your Emily Dickinson, And I my Robert Frost,
And we note our place with bookmarkers That measure what we’ve lost.
Like a poem poorly written We are verses out of rhythm,
Couplets out of rhyme, In syncopated time
Lost in the dangling conversation And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.

Yes, we speak of things that matter, With words that must be said,
“Can analysis be worthwhile?” “Is the theater really dead?”
And how the room is softly faded And I only kiss your shadow,
I cannot feel your hand, You’re a stranger now unto me
Lost in the dangling conversation. And the superficial sighs,
In the borders of our lives.

One day I read a posting about the irony between digital era and conversation. I was interested. So I left a comment that quote a song titled “The Dangling Conversation” and I said “we replace talk with type, don’t we ?”. I don’t know if the blogger likes it or not, approve my comment or not. Or maybe my comment got lost on its way. But it inspires me to make this posting.

First,  I like to say sorry to the blogger who I left this comment on his / her posting.  If you don’t like my comment or my comment annoyed you or even bothered your blog. But I want you to know that  I am really not a spammer.

As we already know that we are living in digital world. None of every life fields that doesn’t use computer. The consequence of it is we are more often typing than speaking or talking. If in the olden days we speak through the phone to someone if we separate in a long distance, now we can text someone with our cellphone or computer. Thanks to technology.

In work, a subordinate can communicate with superiors via text. A subordinate doesn’t need to speak to his superiors face to face in some situations.

Because of technology too, we can make a lot of friends from all around the world without going travelling physically with digitally social networks. We just  need to choose it. The one that we prefer better than the others. If we confuse, we can be the member of several social networks at once. There’ s no rules against it.

Yes, there’s many social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Myspace. But whether they make us more social in this digital era ? I have several friends on a social network, but several times I tried to chat with them, they don’t reply my chat. Finally, I have tendency  not to begin a chat. Unless they chat me first. Not only that, they rarely or never leave any comments on my status or my pictures.

Isn’t it ironic ? The name of software is social network, but it seems they don’t  like to comment or to chat with their friends. And it’s more ironic, because some of them asked me first to be their friends by sent me their friendship requests. In this case, I wasn’t the one who sent them my friendship request and asked them to be my friend.

If the case is the other way around. I was the one who sent them my friendship request and asked them to be my friend, it’s still can be  understood if they never want to chat me or comment on my status or my pictures. Maybe because they add me as their friends with carelessly.

Another funny thing about this is I have a friend who never comment on my pictures or status, but he asked me to comment on his pictures.

One thing that annoyed me is if I have a friend request, but my candidate friend doesn’t have any self-portrait. Not only that, the information about him / her is also not enough available. I usually refuse this kind of friendship request. Just like the type of this software that is social network, don’t we mean to be friends ? But unfortunately you don’t provide me enough about your information and your face.

And finally, maybe the saddest thing of this is one of my  friends  even can look like an autistic person if he is already in front of the computer. Whatever I say or do seems doesn’t attract him at all anymore. Louder sounds around him  can’t seem to disturb him. If the phone near him rings, he tends to ignore it.  Even if I ask him, I have to repeat what I say  to get his attention. After this,  then he even still answers it with a short answer and tendency to answer with carelessly.

The computer with its internet seems to hypnotize him. Since that, we rarely talk  to each other. We seem so preoccupied and busy with our own world and our own business. We like big kids with our own toys. For this, should I say thank you to technology too ?

Why Don’t You Write Me The Sound of Silence

I really like WordPress. One of the things that I like from WordPress is a random comment that always follow when you published a post. Sometimes it inspires me. Like when I finished a posting and I got a comment “Writing is a struggle against silence”.  Of course, I agree with it.

Writing at least can spend our spare time instead of we keep silent and don’t know what to do. Beside that,  silence likes a cancer grows that can kill us when we have so much time and have nothing to do or don’t know what to do.
Writing can express our heart’s content. Beside that,  writing can help us to think sequentially and in order. Maybe find some solutions and solve some problems to what we write about.
And maybe if we do it more seriously  and our writing is very specifically, writing can make money.

Don’t forget too that writing is also taught since we were children. When we started to go to school. Remember that we sometime also given a homework to make an essay. So basically, writing is a general job that everyone can do it. Only we must improve our writing skill continuously.

On the other hand, silence has positive aspects too. When we want to get rid off the frenetic bustle of urban or we want to contemplate or meditate or pray, we need silence as well.

So, when I publish this posting, what will be  the next WordPress comment ? Anybody knows ? I hope WordPress will give a random comment that will inspire me. Thank you so much for your random comment.

O Sacred Head, Now Wounded

These 2 videos above both have similarity, both melancholic. And in my opinion,  both have almost similar tones. When I tried to imitate these both songs  on keyboard,  sometimes I confused and became randomized and chaotic. Then because of  curiosity I searched about “American Tune” on the internet.  But before that, I already knew that “O Sacred Head, Now Wounded” was composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Then I found it in Wikipedia. It said that  “American Tune” was based on the melody from Johann  Sebastian Bach’s chorale  from St. Matthew Passion. “American Tune”‘s melody is practically identical to that of the hymns “O Sacred Head, Now Wounded”, although Paul Simon expanded on the tune.

Although I finally knew about similarity of these 2 songs. But last Saturday when I went to the church and the choir sang “O Sacred Head, Now Wounded”, I still surprised when the church organ played the intro of this song. I said to myself that the intro sounded like “American Tune”.

Beside both have similarity, both have difference. “O Sacred Head, Now Wounded” was a gospel song told about the sacrifice of  The Son of The God to redeem human from sins. This song is often sung in the church during Easter.

While “American Tune” according to Wikipedia described a perspective on the American experience; there are references to struggle, weariness, hard work, confusion, and homesickness. The bridge conveys a dream of death and of the Statue of Liberty “sailing away to sea.” The song ends with an assertion that “you can’t be forever blessed” before the lyrics return to the idea of work, tiredness, and resignation.

To worry, weary, confuse and doubt is human. But to sacrifice is divine. Just like The Son of The God who sacrificed himself to redeem human from sins.

Happy Easter !

O Sacred Head, Now Wounded

O sacred Head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down,
now scornfully surrounded with thorns, Thine only crown:
O sacred head, what glory, what bliss till now was thine!
Yet, though despised and gory,I joy to call thee mine

What Thou, my Lord, has suffered was all for sinners’ gain;
mine, mine was the transgression, but Thine the deadly pain.
Lo, here I fall, my Savior! ‘Tis I deserve Thy place;
look on me with Thy favor, vouchsafe to me Thy grace.

What language shall I borrow to thank Thee, dearest friend,
for this Thy dying sorrow, Thy pity without end ?
O make me Thine forever; and should I fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never outlive my love to Thee.

American tune

Many’s, the time I’v been mistaken And many times confused
Yes, and often felt forsaken And certainly misused
But I’m all right, I’m all right I’m just weary to my bones
Still, you don’t expect to be Bright and bon vivant
So far away from home, so far away from home

And I don’t know a soul who’s not been battered
I don’t have a friend who feels at ease
I don’t know a dream that’s not been shattered or driven to its knees
But it’s all right, it’s all right We’ve lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the road we’re traveling on
I wonder what went wrong I can’t help it, I wonder what went wrong

And I dreamed I was dying And I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying

We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the age’s most uncertain hour and sing an American tune
But it’s all right, it’s all right You can’t be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow’s going to be another working day And I’m trying to get some rest
That’s all I’m trying to get some rest

April Come She Will

April come she will When streams are ripe and swelled with rain;
May, she will stay, Resting in my arms again
June, she´ll change her tune, In restless walks she´ll prowl the night;
July, she will fly And give no warning to her flight.

August, die she must, The autumn winds blow chilly and cold;
September I´ll remember. A love once new has now grown old.

Today is April the first and all around the world know what called April mop. Indonesia has just made it. Maybe the biggest April mop ever. After the rumour that the price of gasoline ( fuel oil )  will be raised at 1 April caused many demonstrations. Finally the government cancelled it. The next rumour says that price increases will be held on 1 June.

And if it so, then it suits with this song. April come she ( the government ) will to raise the price of  fuel oil. Although she cancelled it. May, she ( the price ) will stay at least I hope so. June, she’ll change her tune and plan to raise the price. July, she ( the price ) will fly and give no warning to her flight.

August, I don’t know what to say. It’s still too far. And so with September
